Installing a D-Link DFE-530TX+ network interface card on a customer's G5 with OS 10.4.7, I encountered a problem, in that the installer set the ownership and permissions on the kernel extension (driver) so that Tiger refused to load the extension. A popup would appear saying the the extension was not installed correctly and that it would not be loaded. The problem is that the installer sets the ownership on the kernel extension files to that of the user who installed the driver. The files need to be owned by user root, group wheel. Also, directories should have drwxr-xr-x permissions (755). If you know what you're doing, you can correct this from the Terminal App by going into the /System/Library/Extensions folder and using chown and chmod to fix the ownership and permission bits.
